McLEAN

Emily May

Jan. 31, 1926 - May 27, 2014

With deep sadness the family of Emily May (Blades) McLean announces that she passed away May 27 at Extendicare Michener Hill. Emily was born in Wetaskiwin but moved at the age of two to Red Deer. Early days in Red Deer for the extended Blades and Perlick families were a mix of depression era sadness and blessings of growing up in the Michener Hill neighborhood of the 1930's and 40's. Emily met Hector when he was stationed at the A20 camp in Red Deer and together they raised six children in the Waskasoo neighborhood, celebrating 66 years of marriage until Hector's passing in 2009. Losing her life's foundation of being, Mom lost her sense of happiness and her emotional health declined until her passing. She leaves to remember her love of them; daughters, Ella Mae Bannerman, Nanaimo, B.C., Bev (Terry) Hanes, Red Deer, Lynn (Richard) Klymok, High River, Bonnie (Ron) Mikolas, Cold Lake and son Douglas of Red Deer; sisters, Dorlene Swainson, Red Deer and Donnabelle Anderson, U.S.A. and brother Leonard (Dorothy) Blades; her aunts, Lucille Blades, Red Deer and Mary Krenbrink, B.C; grandchildren Tammy (Horst) Frieburg, Darcy Bailey, Gwen Hanes, Jennifer (Rob) Hanes, Theresa (Darcy) Smith, Michelle Klymok, Hilton Klymok, Bradley (Val) Mikolas, Erica (Travis) Mikolas, Leslie-Anne (Jason) McLean and precious great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews of the extended Blades, Perlick, Pinyon and McLean families of Art, Wes, Frank, Bill, Lloyd and May. She was predeceased by her parents Jim and Johannah Blades; sisters Leona and Phyllis (Jim) Turner and brother, Don Blades; son Donald; brothers-in-law Jack, Joe and Earl McLean; and sisters-in-law, Velma Ritter, Muriel Eaton, Evelyn Keele and Edith McLean. Emily was, at various times, employed at the KFC years ago, Central Alberta Abbatoir and Sears in Red Deer. Active with Branch #35 Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose, she was proud to have been honoured with Life memberships in both. If desired, donations in Emily's memory may be directed to the Gaetz Memorial United Church or the Red Deer Legion Branch #35 or your charity of choice. Internment will be at Alto-Reste Cemeteries June 2 at 11 am with a tea following at the Legion on Bremner Avenue in Red Deer at noon.
