Emma GRONNESTAD

GRONNESTAD Emma Gronnestad passed away January 12, 2007. She was born December 16, 1904 at Sutherland, Iowa to Mary and John Greggersen. At age 7 she moved with her family to a farm near Strongfield, Saskatchewan. In 1923 she married Jorgen Gronnestad. They then moved briefly to Red Deer, then to Sylvan Lake, then after moves to Willowdale and to Saskatchewan, they returned to farm near Sylvan Lake where they remained until Jorgen passed away in 1954. Shortly thereafter Emma and son Roy moved to Red Deer where she remained. Here she worked at the Peacock Inn and Deerhome. She was very active in several organizations. She is survived by Margaret Stephens, Clem (Katie), Cameron, Tina and Maria; Jim (Vicki), Leigh (Victor) and Jaymie (Kieran); Bill, Tara and Jeff, and Don Swainson; Pat, Crystal and Melissa Gronnestad; Marilyn Smith (Rollie), Ryan (Tanya) and Rae Ann Smith; Roy (Marg), Wendy Gronnestad-Damur (Bill) and Gary Gronnestad, plus numerous other extended family members. Emma was predeceased by husband Jorgen, two brothers, three sisters, sons George, Alfred, Gordon, Ray, grandson Dennis Gronnestad, daughters-in-law Virginia and Frances, and son-in-law Graham Stephens. A memorial service for Emma will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross St. Red Deer on Friday, January 19 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Deer Downtown House or the charity of one's choice.
