Emma MOERMAN

December 18, 2006

MOERMAN (Keitel) Emma (Iemkje) Moerman went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 13, 2006 at the age of 93 years. Emma was born January 29, 1913 in Drachten, The Netherlands. In April 1928, she immigrated to Canada aboard the Montrose with her father, Reinder van Dyk and three sisters, Bessie, Fokke and Rita. Her mother Anna Ancolina Diepstra-van Dyk, passed away only weeks before the family boarded the Montrose. The family settled in the Spruceville district west of Lacombe. Emma was married to Raymond Christian Keitel on June 27, 1934 in the Spruceville Hall. They lived on the Keitel family farm just north of Lacombe Lake and farmed there until the construction of the Queen Elizabeth 2 highway split their farm. They moved into Lacombe and were custodians at the Lacombe Federal Building until Raymond's passing on July 19, 1967. Emma continued to live in Lacombe until July 11, 1972, when she immigrated back to Holland. On August 11, 1972 she married Frank Moerman in a beautiful ceremony in Gorssel, The Netherlands. For 18 years they lived in the Gorssel family house. They traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as making yearly trips to Canada to visit family. In 1990 the Gorssel family house was sold and July saw Frank and Emma immigrating to Canada. In Canada they continued to travel, enjoying many tours with the C.R.C. Seniors Group until failing health kept them home. 2002 was a big year, with both Emma and Frank celebrating 90th birthdays and a 30 year wedding anniversary. Frank passed away on July 5, 2003, shortly after which Emma moved into the Lacombe Long Term Care Centre, where she resided until her passing. Emma is survived by her son, Gerald Keitel and his wife Nelly of Lacombe, AB her grandchildren Gregory Keitel of Whitehorse and Bradley and Anita Keitel of Calgary, AB with their daughter Iris.
