ENGEL, Mrs. Lena Engel of Red Deer, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the age of 96 years. Lena was born on May 19, 1909 at Odessa, Russia. Lena immigrated to Canada with her family in 1914. She grew up near Burstall, Saskatchewan. In January of 1927, Lena married Alfred Engel. The couple farmed in Saskatchewan until moving to Red Deer in 1942. She was an avid gardener and loved crocheting and quilting. Lena had a strong faith in God and served Him for many years. Lena will be very deeply missed but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of her family and dear friends. Lena leaves to mourn her loss, her daughters, Viola Smith of Calgary, Alberta and Betty (Gordon) Arthur of Red Deer, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Lena was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alfred, three sisters and three brothers. A Public Celebration of Lena's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, April 24, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Red Deer Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta.
