Ernest

1924 - 2014

Mr. Ernest 'Ernie' Murray McEachern of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the age of 89 years. Ernie was born on June 24, 1924 at Red Deer, Alberta. He lived a full life. Ernie was blessed to have married his first love, Norma Jean Longstreet in 1962. They shared many beautiful memories as they traveled and enjoyed one another's company. They loved to winter in Mesa, Arizona where they had the privilege of spending time with their extended family and friends. He married his second love, Margaret Chisholm in 1993. They had many good years before she became ill. In his later years, Ernie went on many Historical Tours with the Red Deer Historical Society, which he greatly enjoyed. Besides his family, Ernie's passion was farming. He carried on the family legacy of the McEachern Farm of the Waskasoo Area of Red Deer, proudly raising hogs and harvesting the land. Even after selling the farm, he was always lending a hand to neighbors, until he finally retired in his 84th year. Ernie was also an involved member of his community. He served as President of the Westerner Exhibition Association from 1980 until 1981; was a founding member of the Red Deer Camera Club and an active member of the "Western Hog Producer". Though not a father, Ernie was a loving uncle, and a kind and gentle man who cherished his family and his friends dearly. Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Jeanette McEachern; his nieces, Barbara (McEachern) Steele and Jane McEachern; nephew, James McEachern; cousins-in-law, Lloyd Grose, Margaret Grose; nieces-in-law, Avis (Allan) Sayers, Donna Grose, Laura (Rick) Schafer; nephews-in-law, Neil (Judy) Halberg, Vic (Kim) Halberg, Brian (Trish) Grose, Philip Grose, Warren (Wanda) Grose, David Grose, Jim (Donna) Longstreet and Bob Longstreet as well as numerous great nieces, nephews and many other family members and dear friends.
