Evelyn McNeil of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully on September 10, 2019 at the age of 91 years. Evelyn will be remembered as a wonderfully caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend to many people.
Evelyn was born on September 27, 1927 in Boyle, Alberta, the youngest child of William and Elizabeth Walker. Evelyn graduated from the Royal Alexandra School of Nursing, Edmonton in 1949 and while working at the Stettler and Eckville Hospitals she met her future husband Lloyd McNeil. Evelyn married Lloyd in 1951 and together they raised four children on the family farm in the Evarts District south of Benalto. Evelyn was active in the community and held many volunteer leadership roles, including the Evarts Community Club, Evarts 4-H Clothing Club, Benalto Agricultural Society, Benalto Presbyterian Church and Benalto Boy Scouts. Evelyn enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, crafts and music. Evelyn and Lloyd moved from the farm to Red Deer in 1990 and in later years Evelyn enjoyed many trips and traveled to Britain, Canada and the United States. Evelyn had a keen interest in family genealogy and compiled extensive family histories for her children.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd in 2009; brothers, Stanley and Ernest Walker and her sister, Alice Clintberg. Evelyn is survived by four children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Sylvia Bolkowy (Don) and granddaughter Nicole (Tony Pasich) and great-grandson, Arlo; granddaughter Renee (Paul Rayner); Marilyn McNeil-Morin (Myles); Ron (Joan) and granddaughter Alayna; Cheryl (Art Erickson) and grandson Karl (Jessica) and great-grandchildren Tess and Noah; and granddaughter Leah (Adrian Louden).
A funeral service for Evelyn will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 - Ross Street, Red Deer on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at the church hall. In memory of Evelyn, donations can be made to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, Main Floor, South Hospital Complex, 3942 - 50A Ave., Red Deer, AB T4N 4E7 or a charity of the donor's choice.
