EXNER

May 26, 2005

EXNER September 17, 1918 - May 21, 2005 Herbert Julius Exner passed away at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary on Saturday, May 21, 2005 after a brief illness. Herbert and Gisela, the love of his life, were married in Bremerhaven, Germany. They came to Canada in 1953 with their only son, Klaus, in search of the opportunity and stability this country seemed to promise for many Europeans at that time. After working on several Alberta farms, they settled in Red Deer and both worked caring for the mentally handicapped. They retired in 1983 and moved to British Columbia, where they had many years of enjoyment of their favorite places, by the lake, in the mountains and along the seashore. After Gisela's passing in 1994, Herbert moved to Calgary, where he has been close to his son, his grandsons Peter and Andrew, and more recently, their three life-partners, Bette, Ingrid and Kelly. We will all miss him, as will scattered friends and distant relatives in Alberta, British Columbia and Germany. Herbert and Gisela, now reunited, created so many wonderful memories for us. Based on the foundation of their hard work, generosity and good example, the promise of 1953 has been fulfilled. The family will hold a private ceremony to reflect on the memories of Herbert and Gisela. Memorial donations may be made to Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation (1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G 3Y6). To email condolences: leydens@arbormemorial.com subject: Herbert Exner.
