BRITTAIN Florence May Brittain of Lacombe passed away on March 12, 2009 at the age of 97 years. Born on December 26, 1911 in Rueben, Wales, she received her education in Wales before moving to Carbon, Alberta at the age of 13. After a couple of years, they left Carbon and moved to the Lincoln District with her parents and began farming. It was here that May met the love of her life- Art Cartwright. In 1934, May and Art were married and moved to Lacombe where Art worked for Independent Creameries. Together they had 2 children; daughter Dorothy and son Doug. Art passed away in 1967 and after many years May met Ambrose Brittain who she married in 1973. May was widowed again in 1995. As her health began to fail, May moved to the Lacombe Senior's Lodge where she remained until her passing. May was a member of the Lacombe Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years and a member of the Anglican W.A.. She was also a lifetime member of the Anglican Church where she seldom missed a Sunday Service. May is survived by her son Doug (Rose) Cartwright , her daughter Dorothy Seibel, grandsons Brian & Murray Seibel, Randy & Dean Martin, Don (Aletta) Cartwright, granddaughters Hally & Kim Cartwright, 14 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Ila Morrish, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. May was predeceased by her parents Fred & Hope Morrish, her brother Geoff Morrish and by her son-in-law George Seibel. Funeral Services will be held from St. Cyprian's Anglican Church, Lacombe on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the St. Cyprian's Anglican Church Memorial Fund or the Bus Fund for the Lacombe Senior Citizen's Lodge.
