FORD

September 15, 2006

FORD The family and friends of Catherine Marion Ford (nee Munro) sadly mourn her passing on September 4, 2006. Kay, as she was known, was born on March 1, 1917 in Filmore, Saskatchewan, part of a family of seven children. She was the last remaining member off that pioneering family. During the war years, she waited for the love of her life, Bert Ford, to return from duty as a Mosquito pilot in 418 Sqn RCAF. Bert and Kay were married in 1944 and came to Lacombe, Alberta, in 1945. While Bert ran the local newspaper, The Lacombe Globe, with his brother, Tom, Kay began raising their three children, Bill, Paddy and Joan. Kay lived the rest of a happy life there in Lacombe, surrounded by her family and the very finest group of friends. Kay lost her beloved husband in 1974. Her life was further scarred by the deeply felt loss of her daughter, Paddy, in 2003. Kay is survived by her son, Bill, and daughter, Joan; by Bill's children, Karen, Stephen and Janet; by Paddy's children, Christine and Michael; and by Joan's children, Christopher and David. There are also four great- grandchildren, Isaiah, Hayden, Eowyn and Nadine, who are all too young to have had the chance to really get to know their great-grandma Kay. A celebration of Kay's life will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel in Lacombe on Saturday, September 16th at 2:00 p.m. Kay's ashes will be scattered with her husband Bert's. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Association, though Kay thought that they should have figured out a cure for cancer by now.
