Francis 'Frank' Dodd

Francis (Frank) Dodd passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta, on August 23, 2021, at the age of 90. Frank was born on February 15, 1931, in Trochu, Alberta, to Louise & Frederick Dodd.
He met Helene Laisnez of Big Valley, Alberta, while they attended Pontmain High School in Trochu. They were married on June 2, 1953. Frank always said he and Queen Elizabeth got crowned on the same day.
Frank is predeceased by his parents, sister Rosemary, brother Fred (Florence), and daughter Geralyn. He is survived by his sister Alice (Roger) and brother Jim (Evelyn).
Frank and Helene enjoyed their life in Trochu being involved in community, church, and raising their five children Kenn (Anya), Janet (Murray), Gord (Melanie), Lorie (Frank) and Fred.
They loved spending time with their five grandchildren Jesse (Marina), Cameron, Megan, Garrett, and Peyton, and their great grandchildren Sawyer and Maya. Other special people in their lives are Shelley, Larkin, Jessica, Ella and Scarlett.
Frank started working in the Trochu Post Office at the age of 16. In 1961, he replaced his father as Postmaster. He ended his career as Regional Postmaster and he retired in 1988. He then started Valley Golf Repair, which was a fun hobby for him.
Frank was an active in the community being a member of the Elks, Lions, and Knights of Columbus. He and Gene Schramm were instrumental in the restarting of the Trochu golf course after the war; and he continued to volunteer at the course for all of his years in Trochu.
Frank was a great athlete and enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, curling, bowling and golf. He also enjoyed fly fishing; and the family spent many weekends camping west of Sundre. Frank loved coaching hockey and baseball and had a positive influence on his players.
In later years, golf became his passion. He participated in many tournaments and won a gold medal at the Canadian Senior Summer Games in PEI.
We will miss his sense of humour and pleasant demeanor. We enjoyed many great extended family times together.
Prayers will be held Friday, August 27, at 7 pm, with a funeral mass celebration Saturday, August 28, at 11 am, at St. Anne of the Prairies Catholic Church, Trochu.
