Frank WASSENAAR

January 2, 2006

WASSENAAR, Frank After a remarkable century of life on this earth, the Lord has taken home our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, “Pake” Frank Wassenaar, of Lacombe. Pake was born on July 13, 1903 in Tzum, in the northern province of Friesland, in the Netherlands. He died on December 27th, 2005 in Lacombe at the ripe old age of 102. In 1950 Pake and Beppe emigrated to Canada and lived on farms in Ponoka, Bentley, and Rocky Mountain House before settling in the Woodynook district west of Lacombe. There Pake served as janitor of both the Church and the nearby Christian School and also began working for Lacombe Nurseries. In 1964 they moved into Lacombe. After retiring in 1969 Pake enjoyed building windmills in his garage, and fishing with his grandsons. In 1977 Beppe Anna died and in 1980 Pake married his second wife, Tena Busaan. By the grace of God, Pake and Beppe Tena enjoyed 12 ½ wonderful years together. Pake’s last years were spent in the Lacombe Senior Citizens’ Lodge where for the most part, he continued to enjoy the life God had given him, while amazing us all with his youthful vigor, his remarkable memory and with the sharpness of his wit and humor. His earthly journey finally ended after a brief battle with complications from pneumonia. Many thanks go out to the doctors and nurses of the Lacombe Hospital and Care Center, whose exceptional care so eased his last days. Pake was predeceased by his parents, his brother Dirk, and his sister Aaltje – all in the Netherlands - and in Canada by his first wife Anna, his second wife Tena, one great–grandchild, Christine, and one step-daughter, Wilma Kluit. Pake will be lovingly remembered most of all by his only daughter Audrey (Bill) Noordhof of Lacombe. Through his 2nd marriage late in life to Beppe Tena, he also held a special place in the hearts of her children, (Jim) Kluit of Grand Prairie, Dorothy (Pete) Hansum of Red Deer, and John (Wilma) Busaan of Gull Lake. Pake also leaves behind 5 grand- children with their spouses, 12 step-grandchildren with their spouses, a host of great grand-children, and also a very special friend at the Seniors’ Lodge, Vonnie Tillotson. A celebration of Pake’s life will be held Tuesday, January 3rd , 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Lacombe. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
