Garnet Roger

It is with joy and sorrow that we announce the passing of Garnet Roger Neilson into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Thursday October 2, 2014 in Red Deer, AB at the age of 75 years. Garnet was born July 6, 1939 in Lashburn, SK to Roger and Edna Neilson. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Sharon (nee Stephenson), his children Derrick (Cindy), Shelly (Brian), Stephen (Adine), Mark (Brenda), grandchildren Jillane, Ashley (Josh), Shiloh, Bethany (Patrick), Stephanie (David), Alycia, Lisa, Rachelle, Garnet, Kara, Christianne, Luke, Danielle, Timothy, Sonya, along with four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Wayne (Yvonne), Bryan (Doreen), and his brother-in-law Allan Stephenson. Garnet was predeceased by his grandson Derrick Travis in infancy. Garnet enjoyed his 35 year career with Northwestern Utilities. Throughout his life he enjoyed golfing, skiing, camping with family, and travelling with Sharon. He especially enjoyed sharing his faith with children through Sunday School, DVBS and Awana. A celebration of his life and faith will be held Tuesday October 7th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church at 3901, 44th Street in Red Deer Alberta officiated by Pastor Dennis Burriss. Sharon would like to thank the staff of Unit 32 in the Red Deer Hospital, the staff of Red Deer Hospice, and Dr. Walter Reynolds. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society.
