November 1, 2019
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Garry Wayne Erickson on November 1, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Garry was born to Lloyd and Verna Erickson June, 1940 on his family farm near Tisdale, Saskatchewan.
He worked hard his entire life at the Capri Centre, CGTX, UFA, and developed skills in oil exploration on the Northern slope of Alaska, and building medical equipment for surgeries at Red Deer Regional Hospital that didn't exist at the time. Garry always had a kind heart and helped others. Growing up as a young boy in Saskatchewan, his love for hunting arose from a necessity to provide food for people in the community. He could be found every Saturday helping his friend Walter sell produce at the Farmer's Market, and he volunteered on the Chuckwagon Infield every summer. He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, wood worker, and a farmer at heart, helping with harvest and cattle round-ups. His grandchildren will fondly remember their annual campout with Grandpa at the Red Deer River.
Garry leaves to mourn his loving wife of 55 years, Gail Erickson (Read); his children Tammy Baskier (Greg), Cindy Visser (Jeff), Michael Erickson (Jose Angel); grandchildren Cole, Reid and Lane Visser and Rachel, Nicole and Brian Baskier; sisters Margaret Oliver, Darlene Wilson, Joan Shaw and Betty Erickson, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. As per Garry's request, no formal funeral will take place. In lieu of owers, please consider making a donation to the Lending Cupboard, or the Red Deer Hospice.
