George Stewart Campbell

Mr. George Stewart Campbell of Red Deer, Alberta passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the age of 81 years. George was born on October 17, 1937 in Fort Vermilion, Alberta. In 1963, he moved to Calgary, married Esther Otterbein of Okotoks and completed his teaching degree, before moving to the High Arctic in 1970. The next years were spent traveling and living overseas, as well as starting a family. In 1974, they moved back to the Arctic. Four years later, they moved to Red Deer where George taught school and accepted the position of principal of Central Elementary, serving there for a total of twenty years. Post retirement years were spent volunteering at Sunnybrook Farm Museum and on the Missions Board at CrossRoads Church. Many trips were made to Romania and to other parts of Europe and Africa during this time. For the last decade, he was also involved in helping to resettle immigrants and refugees in Red Deer. His deteriorating health finally forced him to retire for good last year. George will be sorely missed by his wife, Esther; son, Sandy (Lana) Campbell and their children, Joel and Emily; daughter, Kathryn (Telley) Ferguson and children, Skylee and Tristan; and daughter, Kim (Rob) Tenhove and their son, Samuel. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Jean Campbell of Edmonton, as well as his extended family and many close friends. A Celebration of George's Life will be held at CrossRoads Church, Corner of Highway 2 and 32 Street, Red Deer County, Alberta on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11 am with a viewing at 10 am. Interment will be held at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer.
