Georgina NORMAN

NORMAN, Georgina Elizabeth Georgina Elizabeth Norman passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Friday, June 15th, 2007 at the age of 87 years. Georgina was born on October 6, 1919 in Innisfail, AB and raised on a farm five miles south of Pine Lake. After attending Normal School in Calgary she taught in many one room schools throughout rural central Alberta. In 1944, Georgina married Edward Norman. Together they farmed on the original homestead and raised five children. During this time Georgina continued to teach throughout the district. In 1969 Ed and Georgina moved to Vernon where they bought a convenience store in Okanogan Landing and successfully operated it for ten years. After Ed’s passing Georgina got involved in Vernon Seniors Schubert Centre. She played in the Back Yard Band and was a Seniors Councillor for the B.C. Government. Georgina married Clarence Alexander in 1989 and they had ten wonderful years together. Georgina moved back to Red Deer in 1996. She was an active member of the Golden Circle Hoedowner’s and an active member on the Board of Directors at Sierra Grand Medican. In January 2007 she moved to Victoria Park where she resided until her passing. She will be lovingly remembered by her five children; Benita (Len) Pugh, Maureen Drever, George (Joanne), Michael, David; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Kornelovich, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Katherine and George Hay, her two husbands, Ed and Clarence; one grandson, Tony and brother-in-law Bill. Georgina was a founding member of the Red Deer Sacred Heart Catholic Women’s League. Georgina was very devoted to her family. She loved to laugh and have a good time and every family function included a program. Gramma was famous for her poetry and hats. She was the resident poet at Sierra Grand and for the Hoedowners. A Prayer Service for Georgina will be held from Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer, AB on Tuesday, June 19th, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 – 48A Avenue, Red Deer, AB on Wednesday, June 20th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Don Stein, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #101, 5208 – 53 Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4N 5K2.
