PRESTON Gerry Ramona (née Wallace) died peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Red Deer Nursing Home with her family by her side. She will be sadly missed by her devoted husband, Archie of 57 years, three sons, Gary Preston of Drayton Valley, Tom (Colleen) Preston of Innisfail and Bill of Red Deer; three daughters, Connie (Wayne) Glasier of Coronation, JoAnne (Garth) Fawcett of Haynes and Brenda Holzer of Red Deer; 13 grandchildren, Lonnie, Ramona and Belinda Preston, Candace and Steven Glasier, Mike, Darla and Dustin Preston, Sandy, Tracy, Crystal and Lindley Fawcett and Skylynn Preston; 15 great grandchildren, two sisters, Nita Peterson of Edmonton, and Velma Scott of Bentley. Gerry was predeceased by three infant sons, her parents Lex and Eva Wallace, brother Alex Wallace of Langley, B.C., and Isobel Wallace of Ottawa, ON. Gerry was born in Waldeck, Saskatchewan on May 9, 1927. She attended school in Didsbury and Coronation, Alberta. Gerry was one of the founding members of the Talbot Homemakers Club and was well known for her strong work ethic, sharp wit and her love for her family. Many a meal was enjoyed at her kitchen table. Favorites included home made bread, cinnamon buns, sweet and sour spareribs and stew. Gerry spent many hours in her large gardens, canning and freezing for her large family, refinishing furniture and reading if she got a chance. One of her fondest memories was her years spent custom harvesting in the United States with her family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mah and the staff of the Red Deer Nursing Home for their compassion and attentive care during her stay with them. The family also wishes to express their gratitude by giving a special thank you to Brenda for being the special daughter who went above and beyond with daily visits and always having extra food packed in her lunches each day to share with her mom. It was a thoughtful gesture that the family recognized and mom came to count on each day.
