POWELL Gertrude (Totty) (nee Reay) Totty Powell passed away peacefully at NorthCott Care Centre, Ponoka on August 10, 2009 at the age of 93. Totty was born, December 6, 1915 and was raised in the Valley Centre District where she also attended school. Totty married Stan Powell January 5, 1937. They farmed in the Hillsdown District until 1994. Totty was predeceased by her husband, Stan in December 1994, her son, Dennis in May 2004 and her daughter in law, Beverley in August 2009. She was also predeceased by her parents Christopher and Gertrude Reay, five brothers; Charlie, Christopher, Wes, Milton, Ronald and four sisters; Hazel, Emily, Jennie and Nettie. Totty is survived by her sister, Violet Stannard of Calgary, grandchildren Carla Powell and Tim (Leanne) Powell and two great grandchildren, Addison & Kayden Powell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Totty's interests included curling, camping, singing, gardening, wildlife, vacations and she was an avid arm chair sports fan when it came to baseball, football and hockey. Totty enjoyed oil painting and water colours, cross stitch and embroidery. She also liked baking and preparing good meals for everyone. She was a charter member of the Hillsdown Womens Institute and was a leader for Canadian Girls in Training (C.G.T.I.). A Memorial Service will be held at the Willow Valley Presbyterian Church (26016 Hwy 595, Valley Centre) on Saturday August 15, 2009 at 1:30 pm with Mrs. Ruth Ann Sigurdson presiding.
