GIESBRECHT, Mrs. Barbara Virginia "Barb" Giesbrecht (nee Inglis), beloved wife of Mr. Jim Giesbrecht of Red Deer, passed away with her family by her side, after a short but valiant fight with cancer at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the age of 61 years. Barb was born on February 24, 1944 at Red Deer, Alberta. She was raised on the family farm in the Antler Hill Area, and in 1951, moved to Didsbury. In 1957, she moved to Innisfail and lived there until she met Jim. On October 2, 1965, Barb married Jim Giesbrecht. The couple had two children, Laurie and Terry. Barb and Jim moved to Red Deer in 1969. Barb began working for the Red Deer Co-op in 1970, and worked there until she retired in 1999. Barb was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, was her life's passion. When she found time to relax, she loved to garden outdoors in her yard. Barb and Jim attended every hockey game or practice, dance recital, soccer events, school awards, or whatever was happening in their children's or grandchildren's lives. She had a great sense of humor and maintained that, right up until she passed away. Barb had a tremendous fighting spirit, and was absolutely determined to beat cancer, right up until the end of her fight. Barb will be very deeply missed but lovingly remembered and constantly cherished in the hearts of her family and her many dear friends. Barb leaves to mourn her loss, her loving and devoted husband of forty years, Jim Giesbrecht, her daughter, Laurie and her husband, Brian Jansen, her son, Terry Giesbrecht and the lights of her life, her two grandchildren; James and Lindsay Jansen. She will also be sadly missed by several sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
