Gilbert Mr. Leonard Bruce Gilbert passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital Palliative Care unit on November 8, 2006 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 80 years. Leonard was born in Revelstoke, B.C. on April 2, 1926 to Byron and Elizabeth Gilbert. At a young age the family moved to Rocky. He was the oldest child of seven, 4 boys & 3 girls. In 1942 Byron passed away leaving Leonard to help raise & support his younger siblings. In 1954 he met & later married Elaine (Margaret) Farman. Together they raised a family of 4 girls. Leonard supported his family by working in the bush & driving truck. 1961 they moved to Brooks, AB where he worked at Charleton's Auction Mart for many years. They then moved to Bassano and went into partnership with John Bergen (Bergen Trucking) In 1983 Leonard relocated to Bentley where he continued to drive truck. In 1991, Leonard retired from driving truck, but continued to run his business, making sure his trucks run properly etc. Leonard will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 50 years; Elaine of Bentley, his 4 daughters JoAnn (Tom) of Wetaskiwin, Gerry (Gordon) of Sundre, Lennie (Jim) of Ponoka and Sandy (Pat) of Bentley, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. 3 sisters, one brother and 2 sisters-in law. Numerous neices and nephews and friends. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, Billy (1954), Raymond (2000) 3 brothers- in-law Alfred(1991) Jim(1997), Pete(2004) and 2 infant daughters. Funeral services will be held from the Bentley Community Church, Bentley, Alberta Monday, November 13, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Greg Rathjen officiating Cremation. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society Red Deer Unit 4730A Ross Street Red Deer, AB T4N 1X2 or the Lacombe & Community Palliative Care Society Box 5576 Lacombe, AB T4L 1X2.
