Giles HARRINGTON

HARRINGTON, Giles Wendell Giles Harrington was born June 29th, 1925 in Granby, Quebec to Grover and Myrtle Harrington. He attended school in Granby and in 1942 joined the armed forces, serving until 1945. In 1944 he married Anne Ashe and a son William was born in 1945. From 1946 to 1949, Giles worked in Sydney, Nova Scotia and Paris, Ontario. In 1949 he joined the Army Special Services, served overseas and was then posted to Calgary and Wainwright. In 1952, Giles married Georgina Kunish and their daughter Charlene was born in 1960. The family lived in Chetwyn, B.C., Sylvan Lake and then Castor where he worked for Remco Memorials as an independent contractor. His wife Georgina passed away in 1974. Giles was united in marriage to Mildred Tennant of Stettler in 1979 and they moved to Red Deer where Giles continued his employment with Remco Memorials. He later worked as a security officer at the Red Deer Regional Hospital until his retirement in 1990. Giles was outgoing and friendly and his greatest pleasure came from his extended family, his friends, his coffee club buddies at McDonalds and his woodworking. Giles could and did make just about anything from wood and many of his creations can be found in the homes of family and friends. He and Mildred also enjoyed Sunday trips in the countryside, visiting museums and historic sites and sampling the coffee and pie at a variety of restaurants. Mildred passed away in 2001. Giles is survived by his son William (Heather) of Nova Scotia; daughter Charlene (Craig) Hollinger of Red Deer; stepson Jerry (Susan) Tennant of Red Deer; brothers Leigh, Fay and Steve; sisters Beryl and Afton; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A memorial service for the late Giles Harrington will be held on Monday, July 31st, 1:00 pm at Trinity Christian Fellowship Church, 4346-39th Street, Red Deer.
