ALFKE Gladys Mary 1918 - 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Gladys Mary Alfke. She passed away at Red Deer Memorial Hospital on Monday June 1st, 2009 surrounded by family, close friends music and love. Gladys was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta where she met the love of her life, Harold. Together they moved to Lacombe where they raised their two children Dennis and Corinne. Throughout Gladys' life music was very important to her and she became well known for her voice. She began at an early age, singing on the radio in Calgary and she continued in Lacombe, singing for weddings and funerals, leading the Kozy Korner Choir, and performing with the United Church Choir. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Alfke in 1999 and her brother Jimmy Barrie. Left to honour Gladys' memory are her brother Alex Barrie, children Dennis Alfke and Corinne Susut (Grant), her grandchildren Hillary (Luis), Sarah (John) and Christine (Christoffer), and her great grandsons, Kekoa, Julius and Tikal. She also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrews United Church on Thursday June 4, 2009. Family and friends are welcome to attend the viewing at 1:30 and the memorial at 2:30. Gladys' family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Lacombe Seniors Citizens Lodge and Red Deer Memorial Hospital ICU.
