Gloria Jean (1952 - 2012)

Gloria House, beloved wife of Carson, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Red Deer Hospice, on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the age of 59. Gloria was born on May 12, 1952, in Bell Island, Newfoundland, where she lived until the age of 18. She then moved to Bell Burns, where she taught school for two years: grades K to 6. She met her future husband Carson, and they were married August 8, 1974. They eventually made their way west to Calgary, where they had their two children, Paul and Lorilyn, and resided for 25 years. Gloria ran a day home and was a foster parent. She was a constant role model in many lives. She was active in many organizations: Calgary East Nazarene Church, St. Luke's Church and Brooks Evangelical, and her pride and joy was the Youth Optimist/Octagan Club of Blackfalds and the Optimist Club of Red Deer (Adult). Gloria will be sadly missed by her husband Carson, of Blackfalds, son Paul House, of Blackfalds, daughter Lorilyn House, of Calgary, and foster son Justin Derasp of Edmonton. She is also survived by her siblings: Shirley (Kevin) Pitts of Toronto; Bob (Brenda) Crann of Okotoks; Marion Furey of St. Laurent, MB; Gerald (Eshter) Crann, of Toronto; Daphne (Wally) Fitzgerald of Strathmore; Bill Crann of Calgary; Byron Crann of Toronto; Rick Crann of Owens Sound; Mary (Peter) Barker of Calgary; Linda (Ray) Pierce of Calgary; and Cassie Crann of Calgary. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria was predeceased by her father George Crann, mother Myrtle Decker, stepmother Betty Crann and brother Wayne Crann. A Celebration of Gloria's Life will be held on Monday April 16, 2012, at West Park Nazarene Church, 3920 57 Avenue, Red Deer, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gloria's honor may be made directly to Ovarian Cancer Canada, 1409 Edmonton Trail NE, Suite 105B, Calgary, AB T2E 3K8, or the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6.
