March 7, 2009

MAGA Grace Florence Feb. 5, 1923 - Feb. 24, 2009 Grace Florence (Anderson) Maga passed away February 24, 2009 at the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 86 years. Grace was born on February 5, 1923 to John and Alice Anderson in Bentley Alberta. At the age of 17 she met Mike Maga. They married in December 1940 on the family farm in the poplar Ridge district of Red Deer County. To this union five children were born, Martha, Andrew, Iris, Linda and Judy. Grace was a homemaker, farmer, baker and crafter extraordinaire. Many people have beautiful crocheting, knitting and quilting displayed in their homes today. She was well known for her love of berry picking and many of us enjoyed the fruits of her labour. After 50 years of raising their family and farming, Mike and Grace retired and moved in the city of Red Deer and enjoyed an active life of travel and volunteering. After Mike passed away in 1995 Grace continued to enjoy her volunteer time to the Red Deer clothing bank and knitting mittens for the Christmas bureau. When her health started to fail she moved to Red Deer Nursing Home and stayed until her passing. Grace is survived by her loving family, Martha (Walter) Nicholson of Edmonton, Andrew of Red Deer, Iris (Don) Wyman of Red Deer, Linda (Charlie) Poulton of Lacombe and Judy (Grant) Gaudet of Abbotsford. As well as fifteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and her brother Gerald (Shirley) Anderson of Penhold. Grace was predeceased by her husband Mike, sisters, Mildred Dickie, Clara Irwin, Alvina Heck and great grandson Robert Bibyk. The family would like to express with deepest gratitude for the wonderful care Granny received in her final years from Dr. Maureen McCall. You were her Angel and helped her walk from life into eternity with Grace and dignity. Thank you. Her funeral will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe Alberta, on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit 32, PO Box 5030, Red Deer Alberta, T4N 6R2, in memory of Grace Maga.
