GRENVILLE

June 28, 2005

GRENVILLE It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Joan Dorothy Grenville at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on 22 June 2005. Joan is survived by five daughters: Lynda (Stuart), Judy, Rita (Paul), Susan and Ruth; her sister Pat in England and her brother Ray in Ontario; and five grandchildren Debby, Michael, Regan, Timothy and Courtney. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 1972 and brother Ivan in 1977. She leaves behind many other loving family members and friends who will remember her strength and her support, a fondness for books and country music, as well a fine game of Scrabble. Joan was born on December 6, 1925 in Ashford, Kent and worked in a nursery for children during WWII. She met her future husband at a dance during the war and, after a short courtship, they were married. She arrived in Canada in March 1946 as a war bride and settled in the Morrin area, where her entry into Canadian culture was supported by the generosity and kindness of the local community. She adapted quickly to life on the farm and became a mother shortly thereafter. In 1960, the family moved back to England for a brief period before returning to central Alberta. In Innisfail, Joan and her husband operated a coin laundry for several years and then moved to Olds where she was actively involved with the Anglican church. In 1973, after her husband’s death, she moved to Red Deer, where she worked and lived for the latter period of her life. Upon retirement, she enjoyed the new opportunity to travel with close friends. Joan was diagnosed with dementia in June 2000; she resided in several care facilities to receive treatment for this condition and was well looked after at Bethany Collegeside just before her passing. The family would welcome donations to The Alzheimers Society (branch local to donors) in her name. A funeral service for Joan Grenville will be held on Tuesday June 28 at St Luke’s Anglican Church, 4929 – 54 Street, Red Deer, at 1:30 p.m. Sympathies can be forwarded to the family at: www.parklandfuneralhome.com In living memory of the Late Joan Dorothy Grenville, a tree will be planted in the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium Memorial Tree Park.
