Gwendolen DUGGAN

July 10, 2009

DUGGAN Gwendolen Edna Paulene It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our mother, Paulene Duggan, after a brief battle with cancer and ill health. Mom was born on June 12, 1933 in Toronto and passed away on July 05, 2009 in Red Deer, Alberta. She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Gwen Langford, her beloved husband Edmund Duggan, and her dear daughter Suzanne. She is survived by her children: Trish Merrithew-Mercredi, Cathie Brookhart (Roy), Shelley Tucker (Pete), Michael (Delores), and Moira (Andrew); her grandchildren: Elysha, Chelsea, Tyson, Carl, Daryn, Danielle, Edmund, Jennifer, Andrew, and Tanner; and her great grandchildren: William, Dominic, Siobhan, and Kash. Mom came to the NWT in 1957 as a young wife and mother and fell in love with the North. She and Dad particularly loved the Delta area, and spent 19 years in Inuvik. While in Inuvik they spent thousands of hours together out at their cabin boating, ski-dooing, and fishing. Mom and Dad also lived in Fort Smith and Yellowknife for a number of years. Mom worked for INAC and subsequently the GNWT for many years in Inuvik. She also served as a Councilor with the Town of Inuvik. We will always treasure our memories of Mom's dry wit and intelligence, her love of classical music, ballet and good books, the TV show Jeopardy, her kitchen gadgets, her love of animals (particularly all of our dogs), and her love of travel. Mom and Dad had a great and enduring love affair and we are sure they are in heaven together now with our sister Sue. We also have no doubt that they are playing euchere again and that Mom is still trumping Dad's ace. At Mom's request there will be no formal service but we will host a celebration of her life in Red Deer, Alberta on October 10, 2009 and inter her ashes in Lacombe. We love you Mom and will miss you terribly. The family asks that those who wish to make a contribution in Mom's name do so to the Red Deer Hospice, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4R 3S6. We would like to say a special thank you to the staff of the Red Deer Hospice Society, and of unit 21 and 32 at Red Deer Hospital. We also want to thank Dr. Stewart and Dr. Thain for the good advice.
