1937 -2014

Gwen McLeod passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospital on Saturday, September 13th, 2014 with her family at her side. Gwen was born October 30, 1937 at Galahad, AB. She grew up and attended school in Forestburg with her 10 brothers and sisters. She married her husband Gordon on May 19, 1956 in Edmonton. They moved to Red Deer in 1961. She was a very active member of the community, volunteering her time with many organizations including Brownies, Diabetes Association and the Red Deer Hospice. She was past president of the Red Deer Oilwives Club and also a very active member of the Red Deer Golf & Country Club and past president of the lady's league. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 58 years, Gordon, her daughters Beverly (Rod) McWilliam, Marnie (Andy) Miller, grandchildren, Allison (Tim) Wilson, Christine (Bryce) Prysunka, Andrew McWilliam, Amy Miller and John Miller. Also mourning her passing are her sisters, Mary Fortune of Victoria, Joan Crawford-Lymburner of Edmonton, Reta (Fred) LeGear of Forestburg, brothers in law Don Campbell of Edmonton, Dr. Keith McLeod of Toronto, Valerie and Ted Spencer of Winnipeg, and sisters in law Monica McLeod of Prince Albert, and Pat McLeod of Lakefield, ON., as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Helen and David Crawford, brothers Dave Jr, Bill, Jack, Jim and Doug; and sisters Jean Campbell and Helen Nicol. A celebration of Gwen's life will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Eventide Funeral Chapel 4820-45 Street Red Deer, AB. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at the Red Deer Hospital for their compassionate care over the past years.
