Gwyneth Violet (nee Jones)

April 15, 1920 - Nov. 17, 2009

With profound sadness, the family of Gwyneth Violet Peel announce her passing at her residence (Extendicare Hillcrest) in Calgary, AB, at the age of 89 years. Gwyneth, the only child of Robert Edward and Dora Grace Jones was born on April 15th, 1920, in Red Deer, where she spent her life as a "prairie girl". She moved to Edmonton to attend "Normal School", and she began her career as a teacher spending several years in a one-room schoolhouse. Gwyneth married Chester Peel and began raising her family of four children, primarily in the Capilano and Hardisty areas of Edmonton. She spent most of her life as a teacher with the Edmonton Public School Board, mentoring many hundreds of her beloved "school kids". Gwyneth was a gifted pianist and loved to travel. She was a charter member of Grace United Church until her move to Calgary shortly after the "millennium", where she continued her battle with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. Gwyneth is survived by her children Lynwen, Bob, Rhyll and Bruce. In Mom's typical fashion, and at her own time, she passed in peace and comfort to once again be with loved ones that had passed before her. A family memorial was celebrated at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, November 22, 2009. In living memory of Gwyneth Peel, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by
