JONSON, Halvar C.

Halvar de la Cluyse Jonson was born in Athabasca to Frances (de la Cluyse) and Huram Jonson. He was raised on a farm outside of Boyle, AB, where he attended Boyle School until Grade 12. He earned his B.Ed and M. Ed at the University of Alberta. In 1963, he married Maxine Saville of Wainwright. Halvar spent 18 years teaching and in administration with the bulk of his time living and working in Ponoka. He served as ATA President in 1977. In 1982 he became the MLA for Ponoka-Rimbey and was honoured to serve that area for 22 years. During this time he held the Minister of Education, Health, Environment and Intergovernmental Affairs portfolios. Halvar is survived by his wife Maxine, three children, six grandchildren, and one sister. His Funeral will take place on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 5120-49 Avenue, Ponoka.
