January 21, 2009

HANSEN June Bernice Hansen of Sylvan Lake passed away peacefully at the Red Deer General Hospital on January 18, 2009 at the age of 81 years. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her, but we also celebrate the life she lived, comforted in knowing she is truly more alive than ever before. She was born June 4, 1927 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, third daughter to parents Jean and Frank Phillips and was raised in Hythe, Alberta. She graduated from nursing at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. in 1950. She met her husband Korny at Mount Robson Guest Ranch and they were married in June, 1954. They began their life together in Olds, Alberta before moving to Red Deer in 1956 and then finally moving to Sylvan Lake in 1963. Together they raised three children, Karen (Lonny) Trapp of Cochrane, Alberta, Brian (Marlis) Hansen of Sylvan Lake, and Brenda (Gary) Hull of Salem, Oregon. June's nursing career spanned 38 years serving in Olds, Red Deer Regional Hospital and 21 of those years at the Sylvan Lake Medical Center where she retired on May 31, 1988. June particularly loved music, singing with the Sweet Adalines through the 1960's and then joining the choir at the Presbyterian Church in Sylvan Lake for 40 years. She also served as the organist and pianist for many of those years and served as well in many other areas in her church. She loved spending time with her family, gardening, walks by the lake with her dog, knitting, sewing for her grandchildren, golfing and curling. She was pre-deceased by one son Kurt, her husband Korny, her two sisters Edith Goertz and Shirley Masikewich. She will be missed by her three children, eight grandchildren, Lindsey, (Chet), Gina, Darren, Katie, Kelsey, Tanis, Madison and Keaton as well as one brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and of course the many dear friends she has made over the years. Funeral Services for June will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sylvan Lake on Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 am.
