HARBOURNE

HARBOURNE, 1913 - 2007 Mr. James Wilson 'Jim' Harbourne of Red Deer, passed away after suffering a stroke at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, January 5, 2007 at the age of 93 years. Jim was born on December 30, 1913 at Amulet, Saskatchewan. His first job, at the age of fifteen years, was to look after a farm driving a four horse team doing summer plowing. He "rode the rails" to Manning, Alberta in 1930 to join his brothers trapping and farming. In 1940, Jim joined the Calgary Highlanders, serving in Europe until 1945. Jim returned to Northern Alberta, farming, working with Alberta Forestry and cooking for various winter camps. In 1965, he moved to High Level where he worked with his brother at Roy's Men's Wear Store. Jim spent twenty-five winters in Arizona, retiring to Red Deer in 1995. Jim was an active independent gentleman, who loved life, had a great sense of humour and was always interested in meeting people. He will be sorely missed. Jim leaves to mourn his loss, twenty-four nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews and many good friends. Jim was predeceased by his father, John Thomas in 1925, his mother, Mary in 1963, six sisters, four brothers and nine nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
