COPLAND Helen Roberta Copland (Robbie) passed away peacefully October 25, 2005 at the Lacombe Nursing Home at the age of 90 years. Born August 13, 1915 in Blackfalds to Bessie and Bert Fackler, Robbie lived in the area all her life. She took her schooling at the Blindman & Blackfalds schools. She married Robert Copland on November 13, 1939. Robbie and Bob left for Ontario to help care for Bob's father and returned to Blackfalds in June of the following year. They lived in various places throughout the Blackfalds District until the fall of 1955 when they purchased her dad's farm. In the 40's and 50's Robbie delivered mail to the rural Blackfalds District and then later was secretary and librarian at the Blackfalds School for many years. In 1969 they moved into Blackfalds and later into Lacombe. She was a long time member of the Blackfalds Women's Institute and held office of Craft Co-ordinator for many years. She taught classes in many of the countless crafts she could do, encouraging others to learn her fine talents. Robbie took countless awards, ribbons and prizes for her quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She sewed most of the beautiful outfits in her wardrobe, also outfitting her sons when they were young. She was a member of the Blackfalds United Church and the Blindman Helping Hand Club. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Robert Copland, her brother Herbie Fackler and her sister Katherine Matthews, Robbie leaves to mourn her five sons and their families, Lyle (Linda) of Lacombe, Bruce (Dorothy) of Blackfalds, Harvey (Anna) of Bashaw, Howard (Helen) of Tees and Terry (Pat) of Blackfalds, 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel 6120 Highway 2A Lacombe, AB on Saturday October 29 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has been entrusted to Central Alberta Crematorium.
