September 30, 2018
With heavy hearts, the family of Helen Rue announce her passing at the age of 86 on September 30, 2018, rejoining those she has loved and lost.

Helen was born Helen Mary Humble in Sibbald, Alberta to George and Emma Humble. At the age of three, Helen and her three siblings were separated and placed in care. At the age of five, Helen was adopted by Arnold and Ruby Golley to their farm in the Tees area. Ruby had requested a little red-haired girl and Helen, a beautiful little red-haired girl, was lovingly chosen.

Helen learned to play piano, violin and accordion, took dance lessons and enjoyed a loving childhood with her new parents. Helen moved to Red Deer to attend Red Deer Composite High School and stayed in the dormitory there.

She met Lloyd Rue at a birthday party and they married on February 27, 1952, residing over the years at Red Deer and Innisfail, and farming at Ponoka, Clive and Blackfalds, before retiring to Red Deer.

Helen loved to bake and would treat her family to a selection of desserts lovingly made to follow a tasty meal. Living on the farm and working there and in town, her family were her priority, her pride and the loves of her life. Her smiles and her jokes no doubt contributed to her success and popularity as an Avon representative and manager, seller of Tupperware and Tops & Trends, and then went on to benefit her work at Red Deer Nursing Home, MGM parts department and Alberta Registries. She also attended many craft sales, selling her knitted and crocheted items.

Helen is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lloyd; her four children, Allan (Maureen) Rue of Bentley, Bev (Chuck) Edwards of Penticton, and Myrna (Doug) Schroeder and Harvey (Holly) Rue of Red Deer.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Shaun, Mike, Amy and Megan; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Bernie Dick of Calgary, and by many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her beloved sister Winnie; brother Don; her two sets of parents, Arnold and Ruby Golley, George Humble, Emma Humble, stepmother Gonda Humble; and by her adopted brother, Jimmy Golley.
