Helen PEAVOY

July 7, 2006

PEAVOY, Helen Elizabeth It is with sadness that the family of Helen Elizabeth Peavoy announce her peaceful passing at the age of 83 years. Helen was born the first of six children to Jacob and Christina McArthur in Vegreville on May 21, 1923. The family moved to a farm near Clyde, where she lived until she married Elgin Earl Peavoy in June, 1942. When the war separated them, Helen lived in Edmonton, and upon Elgin's return they moved to Barrhead in 1946. Elgin worked at a garage and Helen worked at the Red and White Store while in Barrhead. In 1950 they bought a farm in the Chigwell area near Lacombe, and later their son Rick was born in 1956. They lived on the farm until moving into Lacombe in 1991 where they resided until their passing. Helen was known for her gift of making friends with anyone she met. Helen and Elgin "adopted" many of Rick's friends and their families as their own, becoming a special Grandma and Grandpa to all. Their door was always open for anyone to drop in for a meal, or just a visit. Helen is predeceased by her parents Jacob and Christina, her husband Elgin, brother Bob, and sisters Isabel and Peggy. She is survived by her son Rick (Connie), and two precious grandchildren, Lauren and Matthew of Red Deer. She is also survived by her brothers Dick (Louise) of Edmonton, and Don (Irene) of Clyde, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their children. In addition to her immediate family, Helen is also survived by a loving extended family and many, many close and dear friends. A funeral service will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel (6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, Ab.), on Friday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Mervin Gallant officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, (4730A Ross Street, Red Deer , Alberta, T4N 1X2.
