HILLS Mrs. Marion "Jean" Hills (nee Lockhart) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Jean was born in Oak River, Manitoba on April 22, 1923, and was one in a large family of 15. In her early years, she was raised in the Homeglen District. Jean was united in marriage to Clifford Hills, and in the 1950’s, they moved to Red Deer where they raised their own family of eight children. Jean had many things in her life that she loved, but her main joys were her family, her garden and crib. Family was the most important thing in Jean’s life, and nothing gave her more happiness than to see all of her family together. She was also an avid gardener, and her flowers gave her, and many others, pure enjoyment. She won numerous awards for her gardens, and she was never happier than when she was working or showing her flowers to others. Jean also loved a good, challenging game of crib. She was a very accomplished player who took great pleasure in sitting down and playing a rubber of crib with her guests. One of her most gratifying moments was being dealt the perfect cribbage hand of 29! "Jean was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother … and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends." Jean will be lovingly remembered by her children, David (Gwen) Hills of Edmonton; Ken Hills of Alberta Beach, Alberta; Rick (Heather) Cookson-Hills of Bentley; Brian (Sam) Hills of Stratford, P.E.I.; Dale (Coreen) Hills of Eckville; Miles (Marie) Hills of Sylvan Lake; Sharon (Grant) Riggins of Delburne; and Kim (Brent) Wilson of Red Deer; as well as 18 adoring grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Walt (Lena) Lockhart of Red Deer; and Bill (Blanche) Lockhart of Drayton Valley; her sisters, Grace Lowney of Terrace, B.C.; Ruby (Bob) Miller of Airdrie; Alice Mackinnon of Ponoka; Rita (Bill) Rowe of Berwyn, Alberta; and her sister-in-law, Helen Lockhart of predeceased brother, Earl of Wetaskiwin. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Cliff in 1994; in addition to several other siblings. A Public Memorial Luncheon to Share Memories and Celebrate Jean’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 35, 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Blackfalds Cemetery, Blackfalds.
