HUBER 1926 - 2009 Mr. John Huber of Red Deer passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years to be with his Lord and Savior on January 14, 2009 after a battle with lung cancer. Mr. Huber was born in Serath, Saskatchewan on March 15, 1926 to Carl and Clara Huber. Huber began work in the coal mines and moved on to work at Canadian Freightways as a truck driver. In 1963, they started a trucking business called K & K Transport Ltd. They semi-retired, sold the company, and moved to Fort McLeod, Alberta and bought a motel called DJ Motel in 1980. In the early 1990's, they sold the motel and moved Lacombe, Alberta for a few months and then settled back in Red Deer and bought a diner called Hubie's Diner. In the late 1990's, John and Katherine retired. After the death of his wife, Mr. Huber moved into an apartment where he lived for 2 1/2 years and eventually, due to ill health, moved to the Red Deer Hospice. Mr. Huber enjoyed playing the accordion and singing. He most enjoyed when family/friends would gather with an assortment of instruments to play, sing, and dance; many gatherings were taped on cassettes for people to enjoy years after. He was involved with the Trinity Fellowship Church and volunteered for the Red Deer Hospital selling tickets at the Red Deer Malls. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many, many family and friends over the years for their kind hearted gestures, baked goodies, etc and especially their company.
