HUEBNER

HUEBNER December 22, 1921 – July 4, 2008 Helmut Curt Huebner of Sylvan Lake passed away on July 4, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Helmut was born in Milzig, Germany. During Helmut's youth, his parents managed a state farm in East Prussia until the War. He was conscripted into the German Air Force as a gunner in a Stuka airplane during WWII. In 1954, Helmut, Helga and four children immigrated to Canada on a farm west of Didsbury, Alberta. He worked as a farm labourer and later on the Oil Rigs. Then, in 1959, they opened Helga's Coffee Shop and Greyhound Bus Depot. Later, they built a retail strip mall where they opened a King Koin Laundry. In December, 1963, the family moved to Red Deer where they opened a King Koin Laundry in the Eastview Shopping Center. In 1972, they started The Red Deer Gasthaus where they served European and Western meals. In the late 70's, Helmut, his son, Dick and partner, Mike began Juniper Hauling Services Ltd. Then, in 1978, Helmut started his own landscaping business. Juniper Landscaping was formed and continued until his retirement in 1990. His award winning work is visible throughout Red Deer and Central Alberta. During his retirement in Benalto, his flower garden flourished especially his rose garden. Helmut was an Elk member with the Olds and Red Deer Chapter. He was involved for many years with the German Canadian Club. The Red Deer Gausthaus sponsored the Soccer Club of Red Deer for many years. In February, 2007, Helmut became ill and later that September, he went into long-term care at the Bethany Care in Sylvan Lake until his death. Helmut will be lovingly remembered by the mother of his children, Helga, four sons; Jergen (Gwen) Huebner, Dick (Carleen) Huebner, Fred (Donna) Huebner and Peter (Patricia) Huebner, three daughters; Ingrid (Ed) Weddell, Angie (Dennis) Moore, all of Red Deer, and Susan (Darryl) Thomlison of Calgary, as well as seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150-67 Street) on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mr. Helmut Huebner can do so to the Kerry Wood Nature Centre (6300-45 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, Canada T4N 3M4).
