Gary was born, the youngest of six children, on May 13th, 1945 in Kitchener/ Waterloo. He came west in late 1969. He met Pat Winters in 1975. Together, they raised Pat’s daughter, Janet, and lived in Red Deer and Sylvan Lake, finally settling on the family property east of Red Deer. He worked for Hayhoe Roofing for a number of years and for the last 20 years, Gary worked for VanAlta Management. Gary loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, quad and sled rider. His favourite pastime was to go into the bush west of Caroline and spend his days cutting wood for the fire pit for their cabin at Clear Springs. Around the campground, he was known as Mr. Woodchuck. His time spent with family and friends, playing cards especially pinochle, horseshoes and bowling were highlights of his life. However, when he got talking, it was his way or the highway; there was no debate! Cooking turkey over the open fire at camp was his specialty. His quirky sense of humor and zest for life will be sorely missed by all. Gary will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Patricia and their daughters, Janet (Kelly) Jensen of Red Deer, Alberta, and Shannon (Andy) Spence of Burnaby, British Columbia, along with four cherished grandchildren, Katelyn, Tanner, Gabrielle, and Cameron.
