In Loving Memory ~
Igor passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the age of 84 years. He was born in Lviv, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1949, coming to Alberta after fleeing Ukraine and spending time in a refugee camp in Germany following WWII.
Igor spent his school days in Prosperity, Redwater and Holden, Alberta where he excelled in athletics. He attended the Royal Roads Military Academy in Victoria, B.C. as a Cadet Officer in the RCN. He then moved to Red Deer and started his career as a ward aid working with people with developmental disabilities at PTS, ultimately retiring 34 years later as CEO of Michener Centre.
He especially enjoyed the time he spent at Michener as the Recreation Director. He cared so much for the residents and appreciated his staff, many of whom have remained his good friends.
Igor spent his retirement years volunteering in his Church and in the Red Deer community, which he loved. He and is wife, Sylvia, enjoyed many retirement winters in California and Arizona.
Igor put family first and was always there to provide for their well-being. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was so proud of his four children and his three younger brothers, Boris, Jerry and Orest.
Igor will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Sylvia; children, Marc (Candace), Joe, Rob (Shannon) and Kristen (Rob); 7 grandchildren, Derek, Reid, Cassondra, Nicole, Mya, Madeline and William; and 1 great-grandson, Tate.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bohdan and Sophia Lozynsky; his brother, Orest Lozynsky; and his in-laws, Steve and Alexandra Komarnisky.
