Jack Cuthbertson of Red Deer passed away Sept.1, 2018 at the age of 93 years.

Jack served in the RCAF as a Flying Officer where he developed a lifelong passion for flying. After WW2 he went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta and became a Chartered Accountant. He moved with his family to Red Deer where he established his own accounting firm which became Cuthbertson Sandall CA's. He ably served the accounting profession as a Council member for many years and as the President of the Alberta Institute in 1983. Jack was a longstanding member of the Presbyterian Church and lived his faith through community service. He worked tirelessly with the Red Deer Hospital Board and Foundation to raise capital and improve patient care. He was active in the Downtown Rotary Club, and honoured as Red Deer's Citizen of the Year in 2006. At age 82 he spearheaded formation of the Central Alberta Aquatics Committee in an effort to get an Aquatic Centre built in Red Deer and spent over 10 years working with the committee, City councillors and community trying to achieve this. Jack's personal health and wellness centred around early adoption of running ultimately including more than 50 marathons. His indomitable spirit led to many great adventures including numerous backpacking trips, flying his own plane and travelling, Kona being his favourite destination. Jack was a wonderful man who lived his life with strength of character, kindness and grace. Infinitely interested and curious about the world around him, Jack endeared himself to people of all ages leaving us all better for our engagement with him.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Mary to whom he was devoted for 67 years and by his brothers Alan and Jim. He will be greatly missed by his children John (Rhonda), Mary Ellen, Andy (Kerrie), his grandchildren Shannon (Robin), Connor (Ashley), Erin, Amy (Adam), Megan (Patrick), Zoe, Mark (Kari),Rachel (Duncan),Tom, great grandchildren Owen, Oscar, Ida, Gabriel, his sister Alison, sisters in law Jean and Gloria and many other family and friends.

Donations can be made in Jack's memory to Red Deer Regional Health Foundation or Red Deer Hospice Society. Flowers gratefully declined. Funeral services will be at Knox Presbyterian Church (4718 Ross Street, Red Deer) on Saturday Sept. 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Wayne Reid officiating.
