SMETS Jacques Joseph "J. J." died on December 20, 2008 in the Red Deer Hospital at age 82. He is survived by a sister in Belgium and some nieces and nephews. "J. J." came to Canada in 1956 and spent many years working as a laborer for the C. P. R. The last couple of years he lived in the Arlington Hotel where his many friends will honour his memory. Cremation will be handled by Eventide Funeral Homes in Red Deer. At his request there will be no service.
