BUTCHER

September 27, 1923 - 2009

James Calvin Butcher of Lacombe passed away peacefully on December 30, 2009 at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre. He was born September 27, 1923 in Lacombe AB. He was the fifth child of Mr. And Mrs. Byron Butcher. Predeceased by his wife, Lorennia (Rene) parents and his brothers, Albert, William, Frank, Roy and his sister, Olive Jones and one nephew Darryl Jones. He is survived by his niece, Doreen Kinney of Edmonton, nephews, David Jones of Edmonton, William Jones of U.S. His close cousin. Thomas Butcher and his wife. Jerry of Red Deer. Also his close friends. Grant and Colleen Salmon of Lacombe. James attended West Branch School until his brothers signed up for WWII. He left school so he could help his father farm, as his father couldn’t handle the job by his self. He started driving 8 head of horses doing all the things it took to get the crop in. It became his love of the land from then on. He finely took over the farm after his parents retired to the Lacombe Seniors Lodge. James met the love of his life, Lorennia and they were married June 26, 1986 at Langley BC at her nephew’s Wayne Grimes. James had by this time retired and rented the farm out. They then started travelling at first by John Parson’s bus tours to the USA this they enjoyed to no ends as they made many friends. After awhile James bought a motor home and his cousin Ward Willson became their chauffeur and with him they travelled to many states and parts of Canada. Their other pleasures were his garden growing dahlias like his father before him. He was very good at growing them raising up to 100 plants and he also gave away to anybody that wanted them. James remained on the farm until his health started to fail. At first he stayed with his cousin Thomas and Jerry Butcher until he got worse. He was sent to private care centre in Red Deer and after a few months there he was admitted into the Lacombe Extended Care until his passing. A thank you goes out to Dr. C. McKibbin and all the nurses and support staff at the Lacombe extended care ward in Lacombe Hospital. And a special thanks to Grant and Colleen Salmon for all their help and time they gave to James.
