DUCKWORTH,

James William "Jim"

March 9, 1929 - April 4, 2017

Following an active and productive life of 88 years, Jim passed on April 4 in the emergency room of the Red Deer Hospital - into the presence of his Saviour and Lord. Jim leaves his loving wife of 27 years - Violet (nee Huss) Duckworth; his son William (Yvette) and daughter Phyllis (Len) Slatnik; grandsons Ronald (Christine) with greatgrands Noah and Emma; Jon (Gena) with greatgrands Gabriel and Emmett; also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Jim was predeceased by his first wife, Doreen; his son David in 2004 at age 45; brother Tom and his wife Ruth; sister Shirley and her husband John; nephew Blair and niece Denise. Jim was born in Calgary to William James Duckworth of Liverpool, England and Doris Gibbons of Nebraska, U.S.A. On December 29, 1921 Jim married Doreen Jamison, from which were born William "Bill", Phyllis and David. Doreen passed to her eternal home in 1988. Jim and Violet were married in March 1990. They first R.V.'d across Canada with close friends - the Forsbergs and Bloomfields. They spent their first few years mostly doing volunteer missionary work at several Alberta camps, also six months in the Philippines, and taking a donated bus to Mexico. Jim will be remembered as a man of integrity, firm convictions and loyalty. Watching his grandchildren become responsible young adults, and seeing his "great" great-grandchildren play and grow brought many smiles and joy. He will be missed so much by family and all his friends whether known for a short or very long time. Funeral Services will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, AB on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 1:30 PM. Interment services will take place earlier at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers and sympathy cards donations may be made to Camp Silversides, 18 Brighton Beach Road, Bentley, AB. T0C 0J0, or the Stollery Children's Hospital, 1502 College Plaza, 8215-112 St., Edmonton, AB. T6G 2C8.
