PETERSON Janet Gail Peterson born November 1, 1937 in Grande Prairie, passed away January 6, 2005 at the Red Deer Hospital. Janet was raised on the family farm west of Bentley, took her schooling and did her student teaching in Bentley after attending the University of Alberta. Rather than teaching Janet decided to embark on a career in Radio, working for CKRD in Red Deer as a writer, talk show host and Traffic Control manager. She also worked for a radio station in London, Ontario. Between her two radio jobs, Janet decided to see the world and settled in New Zealand at two different times for a total of 71/2 years. This was the place she fondly called her "second home". In 1971 Janet returned to Alberta, settled in Edmonton to begin her career with her first love of her life, BOOKS, working in the Woodwards Book Store at Southgate Mall. From Southgate Janet worked for Smith Books Store at the International Airport and Mill Woods. There Janet acquired some of her most prized possessions, a large collection of books, including many signed first editions. While in Edmonton Janet also became the proud parent of her treasured cat Cleo, given to her from the family farm in Bentley. In 1998 Janet retired to Bentley and became a very active community member until her passing. Janet was predeceased by her parents, Herold and Rea; an infant sister, Beverly; and an infant brother, O'Brian. Early in 2004 Janet lost her long-time treasured companion Cleo. She is survived by her brother, Garry (Linda); two nephews, Matthew (Becky), Justin (Jen); and her niece, Angela (TJ); six great nephews and nieces, Emily, Ethan, Bryce, Mason, Peighton and Declan; two aunts, Ruth Trout of Edmonton, Reg Peterson of Bentley; and numerous cousins and many friends and Bentley Community familes she adopted. Janet also leaves behind her two new treasured feline companions Butch and Sun Dance.
