In Loving Memory ~
Jean was born in 1926 and raised in a large, loving family in the village of Aetna in southern Alberta. The second child of 9, and the oldest daughter, she said the highest praise a girl could receive in those days was that she was a great help to her mother. None-the-less Jean was the first student from her school to complete high school and went on to become a proud graduate of the University of Alberta School of Nursing.
She was an ardent reader and traveller. She read widely, everything from history, politics and current events to fiction. She travelled the world initially with her husband Arnold and then with her two daughters.
Once she was no longer able to hold her heavy tomes or travel she satisfied her curiosity about the world by watching CBC,BBC, CNN and Aljazeera news each day and subscribed to a number of newspapers and magazines. In her last months she said she had probably lived too long but she was afraid she might miss something interesting.
Jean was always grateful for a full and happy life. Recognizing that many others were not so fortunate, she quietly offered a helping hand. She also worked to make a difference by volunteering in her communities including the community centre in Athabasca, on the Yorkton Board of Education Board, and the Clothing Bank in Red Deer.
She was also an ardent bridge player and looked forward to bridge with her daughter Cathy twice a week.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Arnold of 57 years (2006), their son James (2007) and four brothers, Hyrum, Nephi, Dick and Bill.
She is survived by her daughters Cathy (Don) and Susan (Jim) and son Rod (Jenny); seven grandchildren, Peter, Derek, Margo David, Kate, Evan and Owen; 1 great-grandchild Oliver; two brothers Bruce and Dan, and two sisters Retta and Bell.
At her request no services will be held.
