Jeanne WEICH

June 12, 2009

WEICH (nee Douglas) Jeanne Ruth Sept. 19, 1949-June 6, 2009 On Saturday, June 6, 2009 Jeanne Weich passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 59 years. Her new journey begins after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Jeanne is lovingly remembered as a wonderful wife, loving mother and spectacular Nana. Jeanne was born in Penhold, Ab and was raised on the family grain and cattle ranch, attending River Glen and Lindsay Thurber Composite High School. Growing up she was active in 4-H winning many awards and trips. Jeanne loved dancing and participated in local theatre productions. She was a teen council representative for the Hudson Bay Co. She left home to attend Nursing School at Mount Royal College, where she met and later married her husband Robert, of thirty-seven years. After leaving work to raise her family, she re-entered the workforce, developing recreation programs for youth in the community, running summer camps, teaching dance classes and staging dance productions. Her productions continued with the advent of her eight grandchildren. She took great delight in creating fun filled adventures, whether it was baking cookies with lots of sprinkles, lazy days at the family cabins, or holidays in Disneyland. For more than twenty years Jeanne was active with the Girl Guides eventually acting as a commissioner for the Blue Sky Division. The girls and women involved in Guiding held a special place in her heart. Most recently she joined P.E.O. celebrating the pursuit of higher education for women, new found friendships and sisterhood. Jeanne will be remembered for her sense humour, love of adventure and zest for life. She had a spectacular sense of style and never met a great pair of shoes or a sale at the mall she could resist. She was a "ladies" lady, feisty, fun and always fashionable. Her presence will be deeply missed. She leaves to carry on her love for life, her devoted husband Robert Weich of Calgary; daughters, Lori (Paul) Litke of Lethbridge and their children, Zachary, Jackson and Colton; Shannon Weich (Doug Chu) of Calgary and their daughters, Isabella and Abbigail; Julie (Chris) Kroetsch of Lethbridge and their children, MacKenzie, Emma and Haylee; sisters, Margaret Walker (Clark Predergast) and Susan Tallas of Red Deer; and numerous friends and family. She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Helen Douglas of Penhold; and mother and father-in-law, Lorraine and Walter Weich of Calgary. A Celebration of her life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
