In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Hepburn (nee Anderson) announce her passing on October 20, 2024 at the age of 94.
She was predeceased by her son Gordon in 2023, her husband Don in 2018, her son Robert in 2009, and her daughter Cathy in 1991. She was also predeceased by her parents Stan and Janet, and her brothers Hilton and Bruce.
She is survived by her sons Bruce (Edith) of Lethbridge, Neil of Edmonton, her daughter-in-law Elsie of Victoria, and sister-in-law Judy in High River as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was born in High River, Alberta. After high school she attended the University of Alberta, where she met Don while singing in the U of A mixed choir. They married in 1952 and were together until Don's passing in 2018.
After a long career as a nurse at Red Deer Regional Hospital, she retired and pursued another passion - history. She returned to the University of Alberta to earn a degree in Latin American history.
She was always politically and socially active. In 1993, she ran as a candidate for the National Party of Canada in the federal election that year. She was also involved with the Red Deer River Naturalists, the Friends of Medicare, and numerous committees at Sunnybrook United Church. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Taylor View Towers, Dr Rautenbach, and Santy Arciaga for their exemplary care and compassion.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, or the charity of one's choice.
