July 21, 1944 - May 5, 2022
Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Sigmundson (nee Arbuckle) crossed the veil in Red Deer, Alberta, to join her mother, Eva Arbuckle (nee Crookes), her son, Fredrick Sigmundson, and the many pets that shared their journeys with her, on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the age of 77 years. Joan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 21, 1944, and grew up in Winnipeg Beach. She attended High School in Gimli, Manitoba, where she met her husband, Frederick Harold Sigmundson. They married on May 13, 1967. They had two children, Fred and Heather.
Joan started working for the Red Deer Public School Board in 1982, as an Aide in Central Elementary. From there, she volunteered for the Red Deer Special Olympics with Softball and Floor Hockey. In 1993, the Floor Hockey Team went to Salzburg, Austria for the World Winter Games. Joan worked in many places during her time in the RDPSD, at the Outreach, Glendale, and finally Hunting Hills High School; where she started as Admin and then took over the front desk, which she loved because she was able to talk to everyone, especially the kids.
Joan loved being goofy, dressing up, and writing cute poems for people's special occasions. She loved camping and spending time out at their lot on Pigeon Lake, where she had some fun times with friends, family, and her beloved grandchildren. Joan was a true Angel on earth. As soon as you met her, you would fall in love her beautiful soul. She was that person that touched your heart and was unforgettable. Although her physical presence will be truly missed, we know that she will always be with us in our hearts.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Fred of Red Deer, her daughter, Heather Sigmundson and son-in-law, Dale Ivey of Red Deer, her grandchildren, Amy Sigmundson, Jordyn and Dave Van Dalfsen and her great grandchildren, Leon and Quinn, Reid and Illyana Black, Brody Sigmundson and Madison Giese, all of Edmonton, Alberta. No Service will be held. To remember her, she would love for everyone to try to have fun with life and enjoy time with your families and friends.
If desired, Memorial Donations in Joan's honor may be made directly to a Charity of the donor's choice. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
