John ALWOOD

ALWOOD, John William Mr. John William 'Bill' Alwood, beloved husband of Mrs. Jean Alwood of Red Deer, passed away suddenly at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, December 17, 2004 at the age of 80 years. Bill was born on June 26, 1924 at Terrace, British Columbia. He was raised on his parents farm south of Edgerton, Alberta and attended school in the Dolcy Browning District. Bill was a Commissioned Officer of the R.C.A.F. as a Tail Gunner during World War II. After the war, Bill farmed and worked as a Grain Elevator Operator. For the next twenty years, Bill worked in the Health of Animals Department with the Provincial and Federal Governments. He was an avid reader, a writer, philosopher, a great storyteller and also a musician. Bill enjoyed restoring antique vehicles and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a Mason with King Hiram Lodge, No. 21 and a member of the Fiat Lux Lodge of Research. Bill will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered and cherished in the hearts of his family and many friends. Bill leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife, Jean and their children, Melanie (Paul Brais) of Whitehorse, Yukon, Michael (Anne) Alwood of Edmonton, Alberta, Kathleen Alwood of Devon, Alberta, Robin Hanson of Red Deer, Douglas (Rose) Alwood of Edmonton, Marilyn (Rob) Greig of Vancouver, British Columbia, Karen (Garry) McAfee of Edgerton, Alberta and Kathleen (David) Lapeyrouse of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, as well as seventeen grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by an infant daughter, both his parents, three sisters and three brothers. A Celebration of Bill's Life was held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, Alberta. Cremation was entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bill's honour may be made directly to a Charity of the donor's choice.
