COOK John "Jack" Ret. Capt. Cook, John (Jack) passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years after a long battle with diabetes. Jack is survived by his wife and soul mate of 52 years Peggy, daughter Diane, son-in-law Wilf Foord, his grandchildren Lauren, Brent and David all of whom he was most proud. His last months were made easier through the kindness and attention of caregiver Imelinda Cacal. Jack was born in Edmonton, AB. on August 12, 1929. As a young man Jack began his career in the military. He served in the Navy, Air force and finally The Army from which he retired as a Captain in 1974. Jack began working at Uncle Ben's and later Woody’s R.V. World. Upon retiring this time for good, he became a fixture at the Red Deer arenas and was a hockey fan extraordinaire. Jack was predeceased by his son Grant in 1989 and his mother May Bell in 2009. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held Monday, October 19, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. from Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67A Street, Red Deer, AB. with Padre Don Lewis officiating. A Memorial Tea will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #35, 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, AB. Donations may be made in honor of Jack’s life to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #6, 5015 - 48 Street, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 1S9.
