John Gordon Grutter of Red Deer passed away peacefully on Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Friday, March 7th, 2014 at the age of 77 years following a two year courageous battle with cancer. ohn was born on July 20th, 1936, to parents Edward and Hildegard Grutter of Sylvan Lake. John is lovingly remembered by his two daughters; Patricia (Thomas) Kauhaahaa of San Antonio, Texas, and Stephanie Grutter of Blackfalds, Alberta, and his three grandchildren; Emily, Evan and Ella Grace. He is also survived by his brother Roy (Barbara) Grutter of Calgary, and his sister Jean (Ray) Prettie of Kelowna, Donna Grutter of Red Deer, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his sister Judith Linkewich. John loved to spend time with his grandchildren, playing guitar, gardening, bird watching as well as cheering for his favorite baseball and hockey teams. The family wishes to thank Dr. McCall as well as the staff at the Red Deer Hospice and Unit 32 for the wonderful care John received during his illness. A memorial service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45th Street, Red Deer, AB, on Friday, March 14th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will be held immediately following the service at 4805 45th Street (directly across the street from funeral home).
